Cloud and the Wildfire riders
'It felt as though they were walking through a field of tinder just waiting to catch fire, and all it would take to set it alight was one tiny spark.'
Poppy and Scarlett are about to head off on their Duke of Edinburgh award expedition.
The best friends have decided to saddle up their ponies for the two-day camping trip. Because why on earth would you walk when you can ride?
But someone has been starting wildfires on Poppy’s beloved Dartmoor, reducing large areas of moorland to ash and endangering the lives of the native ponies.
With an arsonist at large, the expedition is in jeopardy before they even set off.
And when Poppy wakes in the middle of the night to the red glow of flames, it’s a race against time to save her friends and their ponies...
‘It's like coming home at the end of a long day and catching up with old friends.'

My family and other animals
Smudge, my first pony, a 13.2hh Welsh Mountain Section B who was a proper schoolmaster and a dab hand at undoing quick release knots. A talent that provided the inspiration for the mischievous Frank in Into the Storm.
Hamilton, the love of my life, and definitely the inspiration for Poppy's Cloud. He was a 14.1hh Connemara cross with the heart of a lion. I had the privilege of owning him for just over twenty years. He truly was one in a million and we had such fun together.
I am now lucky enough to ride this gorgeous boy every Friday. Dobbie is a 15.1hh dark bay Connemara, who is the most laid-back, sweet-natured horse you could wish to meet.
He's given me the confidence to start jumping again, and last year I competed at my first show in more than 20 years - and we came fourth in our class! It's safe to say Dobbie has stolen my heart!
Minstrel, our rather chubby cat, is the inspiration for Poppy's equally portly puss, Magpie. Minstrel's favourite thing in the world is eating, closely followed by snoozing. Did someone say it's time for elevenses?!
And last but not least, the men in my life. My husband Adrian and our boys Oliver and Thomas. This was taken during a family holiday to the south of France a couple of years ago.
